Future plans
Below are some of the features and improvements I’m exploring or planning to add (in no particular order):
- Provide a better means of documenting upcoming or new changes to the API
- Add geolocation data to areas to support more useful location querying
- Returning stage descriptions in either raw text for API parsing, and fancy text for easy website display
- A public website, using the API, to improve public accessibility to water restriction data
- The ability to subscribe to receive notifications of changing restrictions in an area
- Scheduling water restriction changes in advance, so updates don't need to be made on the same day
- Support historical restriction data
- Automating tracking of water restriction changes with suggested updates (manual verification still required)
- Fully automating updates of water restriction changes
- New endpoints to better support home automation systems (eg. Home Assistant)
This API is a hobby project that I work on outside of my full-time job. I don’t publish timelines or release dates for new features — but if something is especially valuable to you, let me know and I’ll do my best to prioritise it.
